Evaporator Coils
Evaporator coils remove the heat from your air.
Modern air conditioning (AC) systems actually work by converting a gas refrigerant (such as freon) to liquid, in order to transfer the heat out of your home.
The liquid is cycled through the system and extracts heat with each cycle until your home reaches the desired temperature.
How an evaporator coil works:
The evaporator coil is the part of the air conditioning system that actually pulls the heat out of your home’s air. After the compressor and condenser have turned the refrigerant into a cool liquid under very intense pressure, the evaporator coil allows the liquid to evaporate which extracts heat from the surrounding air, thus lowering the air temperature.
Now that the cool air exists, it needs to circulate through your home. That’s where the indoor air handler comes in.
Evaporator Coil Care:
For you’re a/c system to work efficiently, it is important to keep your evaporator coil clean. Usually this is as simple as changing your air filter frequently. However, you should have an HVAC specialist inspect your air conditioner at a minimum of once per year, to determine if your coil needs a more through professional HVAC cleaning.
