Thermostats

Thermostats regulate the temperature of your central air conditioning (AC) and heating system.

"Thermostat" is a modern word based on two ancient Greek words: thermo (meaning heat) and statos (meaning standing, and is related to words like stasis, status quo, and static-to stay the same). You can tell what it does by the meaing of the name, “keep heat the same”. When your home is hotter or colder than you want, the thermostat switches your heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system on, to reach the temperature you've selected.

The location of the thermostat in your home and the temperature you set it at can be the most important factor in determining the size of your electric bill.

Digital Programmable Thermostats are recommended by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as one of the easiest ways to save on your electric bill. They enable you to program your thermostat to have you’re HVAC system turn on shortly before you come home, so your house is comfortable without having to leave it running all day. You can also set the thermostat for different temperatures during the day, so you use less cooling in the morning than you do in the hottest part of the day. That will save you money with lower usage.
